SAN ANTONIO — The Spurs canceled practice Saturday, a day after all-star guard Tony Parker sprained his left ankle. Parker is expected to miss at least two weeks.

Parker was injured during a 99-83 loss to the Heat on Friday, two nights after scoring a career-high 55 points against the Timberwolves. He was expected to have an MRI on Saturday.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Friday that Parker probably will be out two to four weeks. X-rays taken Friday were negative, but Popovich said Parker’s ankle showed plenty of swelling.

The Spurs are 1-4 and off to their worst start since going 1-5 in 1996. They play Tuesday at home against the New York Knicks.

Parker will be replaced in the lineup by either rookie George Hill or 12th-year veteran Jacques Vaughan.

Footnotes.

Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich needs surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb and will miss up to three months. The injury occurred during Chicago’s 100-83 victory over the Suns on Friday.

In his sixth season, Hinrich is averaging 8.3 points and 4.0 assists. The Bulls drafted Derrick Rose with the No. 1 pick, and Thabo Sefolosha started the first five games at shooting guard with Hinrich in a reserve role.

• Nets guard Devin Harris was held out of Saturday night’s game against the Pacers with a sprained left ankle.
