The Mesa County coroner’s office has identified the man found dead last week in a burned-out Dumpster.

The man was Leon Wayne Harrington, 41, and he died of smoke inhalation.

Harrington’s charred body was discovered just after midnight Thursday morning after Grand Junction firefighters put out a Dumpster fire in an alley behind 529 Pitkin Ave. in downtown Grand Junction.

The fire crews were returning from a stabbing call when they saw the flames coming out of the trash bin, said Grand Junction Battalion Chief Glenn Crespin.

They put the fire out quickly, Crespin said last week.

“They were moving embers around and discovered the body,” he said.

The coroner’s office determined that the fire was accidental.
