A Denver jury on Monday convicted Wayne Glasser, 41, of sexual assault in a 1996 case that was prosecuted based on the work of cold-case detectives and DNA evidence. Glasser already is in prison for unrelated crimes.

Prosecutors said Glasser parked his van in the 3100 block of West 14th Avenue in Denver in November 1996 and abducted and raped a 25-year-old woman walking home from work.

A jury deliberated less than two hours before returning guilty verdicts on felony charges of first-degree sexual assault with force, aggravated first-degree sexual assault with threats and second-degree kidnapping. Glasser is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 20.

He is serving 17½ years in state prison on two unrelated charges.

In 1998, Glasser pleaded guilty to molesting a 14-year-old girl and a 21-year-old woman with Down syndrome. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison, which was suspended in lieu of 25 years’ probation. He violated probation in 2003 by picking up a prostitute in Denver, police said. The Denver Post
