CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE — It took some coaxing and a ramp, but firefighters successfully rescued a horse and her foal that had fallen through a tarp into a Cherry Hills Village swimming pool Thursday.

Little Kitten, a 20-year-old horse, and her 7-month-old foal walked on the tarp and fell into the pool, which had about a foot of water at the bottom.

Rescuers aided the foal, which had partially jumped out of the pool, but the older horse could not make it up the stairs because of slippery conditions. South Metro Fire Rescue Authority firefighters built a ramp and lowered it into the pool. After sedating Little Kitten to calm her down, her owners were able to coax her up the ramp and out of the pool.

A veterinarian was on site to advise the firefighters and check the animals for injuries. The Denver Post
