INDIANAPOLIS—A northern Indiana woman who left her 8-year-old son at a Nebraska hospital under that state’s safe-haven law did so because she doesn’t trust Indiana’s child welfare system, a friend of the woman said. Stephanie Mote, 30, feels Indiana’s system failed her when she was abused as a child, friend Rhonda Shea told The Indianapolis Star for a story published Friday.
