Denver police have made an arrest in the killing of a neighbor who complained about a loud party.

Ruben Sotelo, 19, is being held on investigation of first-degree murder. The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. Saturday in an apartment building at 2912 S. Federal Blvd.

Police did not identify the victim, but neighbors say the man they knew as Manuel was two weeks from catching a bus south to Mexico to spend the holidays with his wife and youngest children.

Early Saturday, Manuel climbed the concrete steps to the third floor landing where a large group of people was partying at apartment 306 and asked his neighbors to quiet down. Police say Sotelo chased Manuel about 50 feet across the landing and shot him.

Sotelo has a lengthy adult criminal record, according to public records. Since 2004, his adult charges include felony assaults, menacing, providing false identity to police, disturbing the peace, stalking, possession of a firearm by a felon, fugitive from justice and disturbing the peace.
