BRIGHTON, Colo.—A man accused of fatally shooting a code-enforcement officer has appeared in court to be formally advised of the charges he faces.

Adams County prosecutors said during Monday’s court hearing they plan to charge 22-year-old Harry Denard Williams with first-degree murder.

Williams is suspected of shooting 40-year-old Rodney Morales while he was doing a routine building inspection at an apartment complex in the Denver suburb of Aurora on Thursday.

Code-enforcement officers enforce snow-shoveling, weed control and other safety and health regulations.

Williams’ public defender, Kimberly Gonzalez, says she can’t comment on the case.

Williams is being held without bail at the Adams County jail.
