BOULDER — Nate Vaiomounga has been dismissed from the Colorado football team for violating team rules, coach Dan Hawkins announced today.
Vaiomounga, a sophomore who played seven games at linebacker in 2007, was academically ineligible for this season. The school did not say what team rules he broke.
Vaiomounga was charged in January for criminal mischief on suspicion he broke a window in a residence hall. He was also charged in February with underage possession of alcohol.
“We have been consistent in showing no tolerance for poor decision-making,” Hawkins said in a release. “We constantly tell these young men that once is a mistake, twice is a behavior.
“They know they are representatives of the university, role models to many, and even ambassadors of their own families. Don’t do anything that would embarrass your parents, do those things that will make them proud.”
As per school policy, no student-athlete can be dismissed from a program unless the athletic director approves of the move, which Mike Bohn did.
