AAA Colorado is forecasting a slight drop-off in Thanksgiving travel this year.

AAA on Tuesday said 41 million Americans, 13.5 percent of the U.S. population, will be traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday. That represents a decline of 1.4 percent from 2007, owing to economic uncertainty.

Since 2000, the number of Thanksgiving travelers nationwide has ranged from a low of 38 million in 2002 to a high of 41.6 million in 2007.

AAA said its forecast number may increase if gas prices keep falling.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Colorado dropped to $2.01 Tuesday, $1 less than a month ago.
