STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—The Routt County commissioners are cracking down on overtime and vehicle use by the sheriff’s office because of projected shortfalls of at least $68,000.

The commissioners say Sheriff Gary Wall has failed to give them information they need on his expenditures and submit supplemental budget requests.

The county anticipates a nearly $11 million revenue drop next year and may have to use nearly $3 million of its reserves just to get through this year.

Wall says he thinks the overtime and vehicle restrictions are unrealistic but says he’ll try to follow them without jeopardizing his staff or the public.

The sheriff estimates his department will exceed its budget by about $11,000.
