The former Archbishop of Denver, J. Francis Stafford, now a cardinal in Rome, described President-elect Barack Obama’s stand on abortion as cause for Catholics to weep tears of betrayal during a speech last week in Washington.
The Catholic News Agency reported Thursday that Stafford told students at Catholic University of America that even though Obama clearly stated his “anti-life agenda” prior to the election, Americans were too excited at the prospect of electing a black president.
Now that he has been chosen, the cardinal predicted, “I foresee the next several years as being among the most divisive in our nation’s history.”
