PORT ANGELES, Wash. — A Marine from Boulder who is accused of desertion after faking his disappearance in 2006 to avoid another tour in Iraq was collected from a Washington state jail Saturday by the Marines and will be taken to Camp Pendleton, Calif., officials said.

It’s unclear what will happen to Lance Hering at Camp Pendleton, and camp spokeswoman Maj. Kristen Lasica said no decisions have been made on charges he may face.

Hering was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, a part of the 1st Marine Division. He was an infantryman.

He faked his disappearance two years ago in Eldorado Canyon, and was arrested last week in Port Angeles, Wash., after boarding a private plane rented by his father, Floyd.

The rented four-seat Cessna contained food and clothing for several days. There was paperwork indicating the pilot investigated flight plans to Virginia.
