CLEVELAND — Browns quarterback Brady Quinn will miss the rest of the season with a broken right index finger he made worse by playing Sunday, according to reports.
Foxsports.com and the Cleveland Plain Dealer said the break on Quinn’s finger worsened after he tried to play through the injury Sunday in a loss to the Texans.
Quinn initially broke the tip of the finger and damaged a tendon in his second career start Nov. 17 at Buffalo.
Derek Anderson is expected to start Sunday against the Colts.
Several Steelers ailing
PITTSBURGH — The Steelers might not have running back Willie Parker and four other starters for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.
Defensive end Brett Keisel could miss three games with a sprained medial collateral ligament, and coach Mike Tomlin also doesn’t know if cornerback Deshea Townsend (hamstring), cornerback Bryant McFadden (forearm) and left tackle Marvel Smith (back) will play. Parker is questionable because of left knee inflammation.
Romo still wearing splint
IRVING, Texas — Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo said he hopes to soon play without a splint on his throwing hand, but the protective device was still covering his injured right pinkie during the portion of practice open to the media.
“It’s getting a lot better. . . . I feel like I could probably get to a point where (I could be) playing without the splint” Thursday against the Seahawks, Romo said. “I don’t know if the trainers and doctors are going to let me, but I’m getting pretty close.”
Redskins cut Alexander
ASHBURN, Va. — Shaun Alexander was released by the Redskins after getting 24 yards on 11 carries in five games.
The former NFL MVP was trying to make a comeback after foot and wrist injuries ruined his last two seasons and prompted the Seahawks to cut him in April. But the 31-year- old back never showed anything close to the form that helped him rush for 1,880 yards in his 2005 MVP season.
Also, the Redskins signed defensive tackle Ryan Boschetti.
