COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A 19-year-old Colorado Springs woman has been issued a summons for careless driving resulting in death after a crash on Interstate 25 killed her passenger.
Police say Dezirae Shier-Gill was the driver of a car that slammed into the back of a disabled semi-truck on the shoulder of I-25 in central Colorado Springs just before noon Monday.
Investigators say Shier-Gill had been talking with her passenger, 19-year-old Wade Lehman, got distracted, and drifted onto the shoulder.
The car flipped over. Lehman was pronounced dead at the scene. Shier-Gill was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Lehman was a 2008 graduate of Coronado High School in Colorado Springs and was a freshman at Colorado State University-Pueblo, where he was a wrestler.
