PUEBLO, Colo.—A Pueblo businessman is dead after a garbage truck he was repairing fell off its supports and crushed him.

Pueblo County Coroner James Kramer says 49-year-old Bill Anderson died at the scene.

Anderson had been working underneath the truck in an alley behind his family business, Anderson Carpets, about 5:15 p.m. Monday.

Deputy Police Chief Andy McLachlan says the truck had been raised on jacks and supported by concrete blocks. McLachlan says the cinder blocks shifted and the truck came down on top of Anderson as he pulled on a wrench.

Pueblo Fire Department personnel raised the truck and removed Anderson, but paramedics were unable to revive him.

Authorities said the truck was registered to Anderson Carpets.
