Re: Deep Fried Turkey Oil

I have been searching for the proper way to dispose of peanut oil. It takes 5 gallons to fry a turkey. I have contacted numerous companies and the only real answer I get is to contact a local restaurant. Where are people disposing of this oil? In the local trash? Down the drain? We as a community need a real solution to this.

I appreciate any help you can give me by making this a public issue. I have 10 gallons because for years I have not found a proper method to dispose of the peanut oil.

Good question. Several local municipalities are participating in a “Holiday recycOil” event on Saturday, to take that turkey oil off your hands for recycling into biofuels. There are over a dozen disposal locations in the area; all will be operating Saturday only, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In Denver:

McNichols Building Parking Lot, 1460 Bannock St.

In Littleton:

Littleton Center 2255 W. Berry Ave.

In Loveland:

City of Loveland Recycling Center, 400 N. Wilson Ave.

Only used, pourable cooking oils should be brought in for recycling; no petroleum-based oils can be accepted.

See a list of all area dropoff locations at the Rocky Mountain Sustainable Enterprise’s website,

Happy disposing!
