A 58-year-old man traveling on a Greyhound bus collapsed and died as the bus was departing Vail this afternoon.

The bus was leaving the Vail Transportation Center, 241 S. Frontage Road, at 2:11 p.m. when another passenger noticed that the Bellevue, Ky., man was having trouble breathing.

The victim collapsed, and another passenger on the bus began CPR.

Vail Fire and Emergency Services responded, as did Eagle County Health Services paramedics.

The paramedics continued to work on the Kentucky man, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was declared dead, said Sgt. Bill Clausen of the Vail Police Department.

Clausen said the man’s identity will be released by the Eagle County Coroner’s Office after his relatives have been notified.
