The Colorado State volleyball team qualified for its 14th consecutive NCAA tournament when the 64-team field was announced Sunday.
The Rams (22-6) will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to face Florida International (28-6) in the first round Friday. The winner will advance to play either No. 15 seed Florida (25-3) or Florida A&M (14-12) on Saturday.
The Rams finished second in the Mountain West Conference behind No. 12 seed Utah (24-5). Penn State (32-0) earned the No. 1 seed.
Davis’ 26 points lead 14ers.
The Colorado 14ers opened their NBA D-League schedule with back-to-back wins after topping the Albuquerque Thunderbirds 126-97 in the home opener in Broomfield on Sunday. Josh Davis scored a game-high 26 points and added 10 rebounds for the 14ers, who led by as many as 39 points. Dominique Coleman added 20 points and 10 rebounds for Colorado. The 14ers won at Albuquerque 119-118 in Friday’s season opener.
Colorado golf awards announced.
The Colorado Golf Association, Colorado Women’s G.A. and Colorado Junior G.A. named its 2008 players of the year. University of Colorado’s Patrick Grady of Omni Interlocken earned the men’s award and Becca Huffer of Overland Park was the women’s winner. Robert Polk of Colorado G.C. earned the men’s senior award, and Kathy Malpass of Hiwan was the women’s senior winner. Brendan Connolly of Castle Pines and Bethany Buchner of The Olde Course at Loveland won the junior awards.
