A fire in a blocked chimney is thought to be the cause of a fire that did $20,000 in damage yesterday to an unoccupied house in Aurora.
Crews responded about 1 p.m. to the 2700 block of South Salida Way, the Aurora Fire Department said in a news release.
The house had recently been purchased, but no one had moved in. Construction workers had lit a fire in the fireplace, and the blaze spread to the chimney box and attic, fire investigators said.
On Thursday, firefighters put out a blaze that caused $50,000 in damage to a house in the 1000 block of South Ventura Way.
That fire started just before 3 p.m. in the fireplace and spread through the wall and attic, the fire department said in a news release.
The man living there and his two cats were not injured.
The Aurora Fire Department reminds homeowners to have a professional inspect heating appliances — fireplaces, furnaces, space heaters and water heaters.
