Getting your player ready...

While other Colorado ski areas were racing to open the notorious white ribbons of peril, Copper Mountain Resort was focused on being first to drop in to the stunt ditch. And for the fourth consecutive year, the Summit County ski and snowboard area succeeded in becoming the first resort in North America to open a superpipe.

Copper’s park crew placed the welcome mat atop the pipe just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, once again giving local riders a leg up on the competition heading into the kickoff event of the pro contest season. Copper will host the U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix (traditionally held at Breckenridge) for the first time on Dec. 12-13.

You don’t need a pro card to tee it up between now and then, but rookies might consider strapping on a helmet before dropping into the belly of this beast.
