Macy’s stores in Cherry Creek and Park Meadows raised more than $79,000 for local nonprofits during Community Shopping Day on Nov. 22.

It was the first time the Community Shopping Day was held in Colorado for local charities. The groups sold discount Macy’s tickets for $10 each, held special events and volunteered in the store that day.

The charities kept the $10 raised from each ticket, and ticket buyers received 20 percent off items at the store.

Organizations that participated included ARC of Colorado, Boulder County AIDS Project, Denver Center for Crime Victims, Denver North High School boys basketball, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Inc., Public Education & Business Coalition, Rocky Mountain PBS and the Women’s Bean Project.
