Seattle Pacific got two goals from Amanda Johnson, including a header in the second minute, for a 3-1 victory over No. 7-ranked Metro State in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II women’s soccer tournament Thursday in Tampa, Fla.
The Roadrunners (20-2-3) rallied to tie the game on Jen Thomas’ goal in the 55th minute, from an assist by Madison McQuilliams.
But Johnson’s goal 38 seconds later and an insurance score from Jocelyn Charette in the 59th helped put No. 4 Seattle Pacific (21-1-2) into Saturday’s championship game.
“We only have three seniors and five juniors and they have stepped up to bring us this far,” Metro State coach Adrianna Almaraz said. “I told the team after the game to remember what this feels like, so next year we can be on the other end.”
In the other semifinal, No. 2 West Florida blanked St. Rose (N.Y.) 4-0.
