An off-duty Commerce City police sergeant rolled his car early Sunday morning, and alcohol is suspected of contributing to the crash.

Sgt. Joe Sandoval rolled a 2007 Mitsubishi at about 12:41 a.m. Sunday in the 7400 block of Quebec Parkway, according to the Commerce City Police Department.

Officers responding to the scene believed the crash involved alcohol and called in the Colorado State Patrol to help investigate because Sandoval’s position with the police department could raise conflicts.

The state patrol is investigating whether alcohol was a factor but no charges have been filed, police said.

Sandoval was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where he is in stable condition, police said.
