The University of Colorado believes senior safety Joel Adams is worthy of the Rudy Award, which honors college football players for displaying the character and courage of former Notre Dame player Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, the inspiration behind the movie “Rudy.”

Adams is a four-year walk-on who plays on special teams. He also was a member of the Buffs’ 2006 national championship ski team.

Kentucky linebacker Terry Clayton, who lost his hearing at the age of 5, received the inaugural award last year. Former Colorado coach Gary Barnett and former Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry are on this year’s selection committee. Three finalists and the award-winner will be honored Jan. 12 at the American Football Coaches Association convention in Nashville, Tenn. Adams joins Air Force tight end Travis Dekker and Colorado State defensive tackle Ty Whittier on the nomination list.

Rage makes deal.

The Rocky Mountain Rage traded for Kai Magnussen, a right winger who scored 20 goals in the Central Hockey League for the Tulsa Oilers last season, in exchange for future considerations.
