BOULDER, Colo.—University of Colorado officials say about 30 gallons of oil that spilled into Boulder Creek came from a pipeline that was cut by construction crews working on a parking ramp.
Crews were still mopping up the spill late Tuesday, four days after Boulder firefighters responded to an emergency call of an unidentified substance in the creek. Testing over the weekend determined it was a nontoxic light oil.
Frank Bruno, CU’s vice chancellor for administration, says the spill started when a contractor cut a pipe carrying heating oil under the parking ramp outside the CU Bookstore.
Summit Equipment owner James Behmer says crews thought the line had been drained.
