Billy Edwin Reid was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences Thursday for the murders of two women in Jefferson County in the late 1980s.

The bodies of 28-year-old Lanell Williams and 33-year-old Lisa Kelly were found in the foothills of unincorporated Jefferson County in 1989.

Reid was arrested in May 2006, while in jail on unrelated charges. He also was sentenced to 48 years for the rape of Williams, to be served concurrently with his life sentences.

Investigator Cheryl Moore of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit was “tenacious in this case,” District Attorney Scott Storey said in a statement. “It is because of her hard work that we finally have closure today for these families.”
