TEMPLE, Texas—Abe J. Weiner, who worked for newspapers in Texas and Colorado during his lengthy career, has died at the age of 82, his family said.
Weiner died Thursday at a Temple hospital.
He served in several positions at the Temple Daily Telegram, including managing editor, before retiring in 1991. He also worked during his career at newspapers in Athens, Midland, San Antonio and Houston as well as an assistant to University of Texas sports information director Wilbur Evans, his family said.
Weiner spent 20 years at the Denver Post before leaving the paper to accept an editorial position with Temple in 1982.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Alan Weiner of Seattle and Larry Weiner of Garland; two brothers, Sam and William Weiner, both of Houston, a sister, Trudi Brickman of Houston, and two grandchildren.
