GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A widow arrested this week in connection with the June shooting death of her husband at their Whitewater home has been released from a Florida jail and is in custody in Mesa County.
Fifty-one-year-old Miriam Helmick waived extradition during a court appearance Tuesday.
She was released early Thursday from the Duval County Detention Facility in Jacksonville, Fla., and taken into custody by Mesa County sheriff’s deputies.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Heather Benjamin says Helmick was booked into the Mesa County jail at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Helmick was arrested Monday with help from agents from Florida and the U.S. Marshals Service in the death of 62-year-old Alan Helmick. Deputies responding to a call of a possible burglary June 10 found him dead with a gunshot wound to the head.
Miriam Helmick faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder and forgery.
