DENVER—A commission studying ways to ease prison overcrowding in Colorado suggests letting inmates keep their driver’s license to make it easier to get jobs after they’re released.
That was one of 66 recommendations unveiled Thursday by Gov. Bill Ritter’s Colorado Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice.
Many of the recommendations can be handled administratively while others may require legislation.
Some will become part of Ritter’s crime-prevention package, which carries a one-year price tag of $10.6 million.
Another recommendation allows early release for inmates who complete education programs or display extraordinary, positive behavior.
