Xcel Energy said Friday that residential and small-business customers can expect to see a 13 percent drop in electric bills in the first three months of 2009 if regulators approve the company’s latest quarterly electric commodity adjustment.
The utility filed to lower electricity rates in Colorado by $89.4 million, a result of the drop in recent weeks in the price of coal and natural gas — the two main fuels Xcel uses to generate electricity.
For typical residential customers using 625 kilowatt-hours a month, bills would decrease by $8.10 a month to $53.08. Typical small-business customer using 1,025 kilowatt- hours a month would see their bills drop by $13.29 to $84.70.
