Sophomore forward Rob Lewis scored eight points in a game-opening 12-4 run, then made two free throws at the end to help the University of Denver beat South Dakota State 62-58 at Magness Arena.

The Jackrabbits (4-7) went on a 6-0 run to close within 58-55 with 1:29 to play. Brian Stafford, who had 14 points, also made two free throws for DU in the final minute.

Wyoming 74, N. Iowa 65

CASPER, Wyo. — Brandon Ewing scored 22 points as Wyoming held off Northern Iowa.

Northern Iowa (5-5) led 61-60 with 3:27 left, but the Cowboys (7-1) got 12 straight free throws — eight by Ewing.

Creighton 85, N. Colorado 66

OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton (7-2) shot 62 percent from the floor while making six of 10 3-pointers in the second half to pull away from the Bears (2-5).

WOMEN

Denver 76, Florida Atlantic 66 (OT).

Freshman forward Kaetlyn Murdoch doubled up with 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Pioneers (4-4, 1-0 Sun Belt) over the visiting Owls (3-5, 0-1).

The key play came with 1:31 left in OT when Britteni Rice stole the ball and got it to Celena Otero for a layup, giving DU a 70-66 lead.

Wyoming 68, N. Dakota St. 51

CASPER, Wyo. — Kristen Scheffler scored seven of nine points in a late Cowgirl run as Wyoming (6-3) held off the persistent Bison (4-4).

NDSU cut the deficit to 54-49, but Scheffler’s flurry made it 61-51.

UMKC 69, N. Colorado 49

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kangaroos (4-5) jumped out to a 12-0 lead and held the Bears (3-4) to 32 percent shooting.
