AURORA — A man who pointed a gun at two police officers was shot in the upper body Saturday morning and was taken to an Aurora hospital, authorities say.

The man, whose identity was not released Saturday, had non-life-threatening injuries, said Detective Shannon Lucy, Aurora police spokeswoman.

The condition of the suspect was not known.

The officer was not injured in the shooting in front of a home in the 3900 block of South Pitkin Way, Lucy said.

Police were called to the home at 8:50 a.m. on a report of a suicidal man, she said.

When two officers approached the home, a man came out of the house and pointed a gun at the officers, Lucy said.

One of the officers fired two shots and struck the suspect in the upper body, she said.

The officer who fired the gun was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The shooting was the second time in two weeks in which an Aurora police officer shot a suspect.

On Dec. 2, a police officer shot and killed 18-year-old Brandon Winn at his home in the 2500 block of South Kittredge Way.

Winn was wanted in connection with the theft of an Xbox video game at gunpoint from a friend of a friend. Police shot him after he allegedly turned and pointed a gun at officers, authorities say.
