Today is a special day in its own right. It is the busiest mailing day of the year for post offices nationwide.

The United States Postal Service expects at least double the usual services and deliveries today. In Colorado, that means delivering 5 million holiday cards and letters and more than 700,000 packages, and it also adds up to long lines at the post office.

The Finance Station at 7550 E. 53rd Place near the Stapleton neighborhood is the only Denver post office open 24 hours, seven days a week.

“People don’t go to it because they might not know about it,” said Marcela Juarez-Rivera, a spokesperson with the Postal Service in Denver. “It’s not near residential neighborhoods, but it tends to be less busy.”

Finance Station’s west lobby is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the east lobby is open 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. daily.
