DENVER—The State Patrol says a man is dead after going off the road when a trooper tried to pull his vehicle over.

Patrol spokesman David Hall says a trooper was going to pull the Jeep Cherokee over because 26-year-old John Slumski was weaving at about 11:23 p.m. Saturday. Hall says the Slumski fled from the trooper on U.S. Highway 6 and went off the road after a brief chase. Hall says the vehicle rolled once after going off an embankment west of Golden. Slumski, of Federal Heights, died after being ejected.

Hall says the vehicle landed on ice in the middle of Clear Creek.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
