Wet spots scattered along metro-area highways could become icy for the evening commute, especially over bridges and exit ramps, traffic officials are warning.
The morning commute could be trickier, with more snow and ice on the way, according to the National Weather Service office in Boulder.
The high this afternoon reached only 4 degrees at Denver International Airport, according to the weather service.
Temperatures could reach 10-below before midnight with a 70 percent chance of snow, most likely before 11 p.m., the weather service said.
There is a 50 percent chance on Tuesday, according to the forecast.
The region could see 2 inches accumulation tonight, and another 2 inches on Tuesday.
Highs will be in the 30s Wednesday through the weekend, with a chance of snow each day. Lows are expected in the teens, according to forecasters.
The metro region experienced record cold Sunday and today.
The low at Denver International Airport at 6:35 p.m. Sunday was minus-18, beating the old record for Dec. 14 set in 1901, when the low was 14-below.
The overnight temperature bottomed out at 19 below zero at 2:31 a.m. today, according to the weather service, beating the old Dec. 15 record of minus-6.
