Nice never meeting you, Cory Boyd.
After promoting the running back last week from their practice squad to their 53-man roster, and giving him most of the first-team reps during practice last Wednesday, Boyd was waived Monday by the Broncos.
Boyd, a 6-1, 218-pound rookie from South Carolina, did not dress Sunday in the Broncos’ 30-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
“Cory’s not ready,” Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said Monday at his press gathering when asked why Boyd didn’t dress against the Panthers. “Any time you have a guy on the practice squad and watch him practice and you put him in a game-type situation and get him ready for a game plan without OTAs, it’s pretty tough.”
The Broncos have yet to replace Boyd on their 53-man roster. They currently have three running backs: Tatum Bell, P.J. Pope and Selvin Young. All are considered speed backs, leaving the Broncos without a between-the-tackles runner.
