DES MOINES — Sources tell the Associated Press that president-elect Barack Obama has selected former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack for agriculture secretary.

Colorado congressman John Salazar, D-Manassa, had been among those considered for the post, though his prospects seemed less likely when it was announced last week that he had been appointed to a seat on the prestigious House Appropriations Committee.
