RIFLE — A man shot his brother to death Monday in the Western Slope town of Rifle, police said Tuesday.

Rifle police said they were sent out at 7:24 p.m. Monday on a report of a gunshot.

When officers arrived, they found a man who told them that he had shot his brother, police said in a news release.

Heath Johnston, 20, was taken into custody and is being held on suspicion of homicide in the shooting death of 26-year-old Sam Johnston, police said.

Sam Johnston was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the 9th Judicial District attorney’s office is assisting in the investigation, police said.
