Fort Collins police arrested a woman and a 17-old boy today in connection with a bizarre assault on a 19-year-old man who ran to a assisted-living facility for help at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Edwina Sanchez, 26, of Fort Collins and the juvenile, who was not named because of his age, each face attempted first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping charges.

The motive is still under investigation.

Police said the pair inadvertantly parked their Volvo on a frozen pond and lost their prey, and their ride, when it broke through the ice at Fort Collins Country Club.

Michael D. Whiteisof Fort Collins was kidnapped from Sanchez’s apartment in the 1500 block of Blue Spruce Drive and taken against his will to Fort Collins Country Club, where he was beaten and cut before escaping, police said.

He ran to a home in the Turnberry Place Assisted Living facility in the 2400 block of Turnberry Road. A resident called for help.

Authorities are still looking for an unidentified driver who picked up Sanchez and the teenager. Near the submerged car deputies found a knife, believed to have been used in the assault.

Whiteis was treated for injuries for bruises and cuts to his hands, face and neck at the Poudre Valley Hospital, police said.

Sanchez is in the Larimer County Detention Center. The 17-year-old is being held in the the Platte Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
