EAGLE — An Eagle County sheriff’s deputy has been hurt after a vehicle crashed into his patrol car while he was stopped on the side of the highway.

Authorities say Deputy Brad Porter was assisting a driver on the right shoulder of westbound Interstate 70 late Tuesday when a vehicle failed to yield to his patrol car, which had its lights flashing.

Porter was still in his car when the vehicle slammed into it, sending the car into oncoming traffic on eastbound I-70.

The sheriff’s office says Porter was treated and released from a hospital but has not returned to work. No other injuries were reported.

The name of the driver who struck the patrol car was not released.

There was no immediate word on possible charges against that driver.
