FRESNO, Calif.—Dwight O’Neil overcame foul trouble to score five of his game-high 18 points down the stretch as Fresno State held onto a 70-65 victory against Northern Colorado on Thursday night.

O’Neil also had six rebounds and five assists, and his driving layup with 4:08 remaining gave Fresno State a 60-58 advantage and a lead the Bulldogs would not relinquish thanks to clutch free-throw shooting.

Fresno State (5-5) made 5-of-7 free throws in the final 2:30 and was 18-of-22 from the charity stripe for the game to offset 39.6 percent shooting from the field (21-of-53).

Northern Colorado (3-6) trailed by as much as nine points late in the first half but came back in the second half with a 12-0 run. Jabril Banks and John Pena each scored 13 points for the Bears.
