A man who was fatally stabbed in west Denver has been identified by authorities. The body of Jerry Baca, 40, was found Wednesday morning at the front gate of an apartment building at 1465 Wolff St.

The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office identified Baca on Friday and has ruled his death a homicide.

A passer-by alerted police after he saw the body lying in the snow. The assailant remains at large. A suspect has not been identified, and police have not disclosed a motive.

The apartment building is about a half-block south of West Colfax Avenue and in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by bungalows.

Sonny Jackson, a spokesman for the Denver Police Department, said earlier this week that the body was fully clothed and was not frozen.

The body was on the sidewalk near the front gate, which is attached to a tall wooden fence. Beyond the fence is a small courtyard.

Jackson said police receive few crime-related calls to the area, which is about a mile west of Invesco Field at Mile High.
