McCOOK, Neb.—A McCook Community College basketball player has died after being shot in a bar in Louisiana.

Myron Mingo was shot while two other men fought over a pistol in a bar in his hometown of Marksville, La., early Sunday. Police said the pistol went off, with the bullet striking the floor, ricocheting upward and striking Mingo in the upper chest and neck. Mingo died at a hospital.

A 24-year-old Marksville man turned himself in and has been charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm on the premises where alcoholic drinks were served.

Mingo was a sophomore guard and part-time starter for the McCook team.
