Xcel Energy’s “demand side management” plan has been approved by regulators.

Under the plan, Xcel will spend about $63 million on energy-efficiency programs in 2009 and $80 million in 2010. The programs will promote both electricity and natural-gas savings. Xcel is spending about $20 million on energy-efficiency programs in 2008. The costs will be passed on to ratepayers.
