A 31-year-old youth corrections officer from Fort Collins won a $1 million fantasy football prize in Las Vegas, beating out thousands of others who paid $125 to enter the open tournament.

Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice awarded Shane Schroeder the money and trophy for winning the Fantasy Football Open Championship on Monday night at the Bellagio resort on the Las Vegas Strip.

Fantasy football is a game in which players assemble and manage imaginary teams of NFL players and score points each week based on the players’ performances in real games.

Schroeder took a lead Sunday and held off second-place finisher Kenneth Stithen of Manchester, N.H., during Monday night’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.
