A 42-year-old Longmont man identified as Stephen Derr has been arrested after detectives say they discovered a meth lab in his apartment in the 1900 block of Meadow Drive.
The Longmont Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit raided Derr’s apartment Monday. Within a short time, not only did they discover the meth lab but also military-style ordnance, according to police Cmdr. Tim Lewis.
Residents in the apartment complex told police they had smelled chemicals coming into their apartments.
With the assistance of the Red Cross, those residents were relocated and given shelter away from the complex Monday night, according to Lewis. He said the property owner has been notified and will be working with the city of Longmont and members of the Boulder County Department of Health to remedy the situation.
After the discovery of the military-type ordinance, the Boulder County Bomb Squad removed a device which was turned over to Fort Carson Army Disposal personnel.
Derr will be charged with manufacture of a controlled substance and possession of more than 8 ounces of marijuana with the intent to distribute.
At the time of the raid, Derr already was in custody on an unrelated outstanding warrant, said Lewis. Derr is currently in the Boulder County jail.
