TAIPEI, Taiwan — Millions of Taiwanese watched the televised arrival from China of Tuan Tuan, a male panda, and his female companion, Yuan Yuan, at Taipei airport Tuesday. The pandas are a first for Taiwan. China regularly sends pandas abroad as a sign of warm diplomatic relations or to mark breakthroughs in ties.
The delivery comes amid rapidly improving relations between Taiwan and China.
The pandas’ combined names mean “reunion.”
