Toyota Motor Corp. president Katsuaki Watanabe may leave next year and be succeeded by Akio Toyoda, grandson of the founder of Asia’s largest automaker, people familiar with the matter said.
One reason for Watanabe’s exit would be to show Toyota is taking responsibility for what is expected to be its first operating loss in 71 years, said one person who asked not to be identified because a decision hasn’t been announced.
