Perhaps there is a mint in that new $1.3 billion Yankee Stadium. Where else could they get all that money?

With the $180 million deal Tuesday for Mark Teixeira, the Yankees’ offseason spending spree is $423.5 million. Just last Thursday, the Yankees completed agreements with pitchers CC Sabathia ($161 million) and A.J. Burnett ($82.5 million).

The $75.5 million gap between the Yanks and the next highest payroll, Boston at $147 million, is more than nine teams’ entire payroll, including the Rockies ($74.7M).

Said Yankee president Randy Levine: “As long as we follow all the rules, which we do . . . people should allow us to run our business the way we think is the most appropriate.”
