DENVER—A family of seven has been displaced after a fire destroyed their house in the Jefferson County foothills.
The homeowner, Frank Maixner, says he noticed the flames at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, evacuated his family and called 911. He says his five children are ages 16 to 21.
Dave Fleming, commander of the volunteer Inter-Canyon fire agency, says the flames rose “easily 60 feet in the air” before the fire was declared under control at about 7:30 a.m.
The fire destroyed the log house and three vehicles but didn’t spread to any trees. No injuries were reported, and the home was insured.
Maixner says his family plans to stay with his wife’s brother and already has received a “phenomenal” outpouring of support.
